The University of Akron is expected to announce its next president today, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Its board of trustees meets this morning. The school’s new leader will immediately have to take on UA’s controversial reorganization effort, which was launched to address declining enrollment. It was put on hold this spring until a new president was chosen.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost says his office will help local police departments test levels of THC found in confiscated marijuana to address law enforcement’s concerns that Ohio’s new law legalizing hemp has made it harder for them to prosecute people for illegal pot. Hemp is defined by the new law as having a THC level of .3 percent. Anything above that level is marijuana, which is subject to criminal possession charges. Yost said the state will have three new testing machines in place by the end of the year. Until then, he said he’s set aside $50,000 to reimburse local law enforcement for the cost of THC testing at a private lab.
Euclid’s schools will open Thursday with renewed questions about who will lead the district. Superintendent Dr. Marvin Jones resigned, effective Monday, after a little over one year in the position. Jones’ wife, Kanika, also resigned from her administrative role with the schools. The search for a new superintendent will be the fifth one for the Euclid school district in as many years.
The Ohio State University wants to trademark the word “The” when used with the school’s name on saleable goods like t-shirts and caps. Ohio State submitted a trademark application on Aug. 8. A spokesman said the school works “vigorously” to protect its brand.
