The Cavs will get the No. 5 overall pick in the NBA Draft, following last night’s lottery result. They’ll also get another first-round pick at the No. 26 th spot, acquired in a trade with the Houston Rockets. The New Orleans Pelicans won the right to the No. 1 pick and are likely to draft Duke sensation Zion Williamson. New Cavs head coach John Beilein was not discouraged by the Cavs' draft position. "We're in great shape," he said. "Good returning, players. We're in great shape."
Two Republican lawmakers plan to introduce a bill that would require doctors to inform patients about an “abortion reversal” procedure for women undergoing medically-induced abortions. Republican Sen. Peggy Lehner and Republican Rep. Niraj Antani say their “Abortion Pill Reversal Information Act” would provide women with “indispensable” information that the procedure can be stopped with progesterone once it’s started. The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists does not support prescribing progesterone to stop a medical abortion, saying it’s not supported by science.
Gov. Mike DeWine said state correction officials should have a new method of executing death row inmates within weeks. In February, DeWine suspended executions until the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction developed a new lethal injection protocol that would withstand any court challenges. The current drug cocktail contains midazolam, which U.S. District Court Judge Michael Herz said could put inmates through an experience similar to waterboarding.
A Cleveland woman is accusing a Shaker Heights patrol officer of pressuring her for sex, in exchange for making her traffic ticket “go away.” She’s filed a federal lawsuit. The Shaker Heights Police Department said it is aware of the allegations and is conducting an internal investigation. The officer has not been charged.
Cleveland police shut down the Target store in Steelyard Commons last night to investigate a report of a suspicious package. Police gave the all-clear around 10:30 p.m. and said the report was a false alarm.
The Indians walloped the Chicago White Sox, 9-0, hitting five home runs in the process. Two of them were off the bat of Jordan Luplow, who had his second multihomer game of the season. Carlos Carrasco allowed just six hits through seven innings with six strikeouts. With the victory, the Indians split their two-game series with the White Sox and ended Chicago’s three-game winning streak.
