The iOpener: Ryan Running for President; Medina Man Pretended to Be Missing Boy; Indians Win

Good morning, iOpeners. It's Friday, April 5, 2019.  We made it to the weekend.

Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan says his bid for the presidency is to help Americans who live with job insecurity. Ryan, whose Youngstown-area district includes General Motors’ now-idled plant at Lordstown, said “unchecked corporate greed and broken promises from the White House” have plunged the manufacturing sector into a deep crisis.  A spokesman for the Republican National Committee dismissed the eight-term Democratic congressman as a “congressional backbencher.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown, another Democrat who had considered running on a pro-labor platform, reacted to news that Ryan is running by telling reporters, "more power" to him.  Brown said Ryan is unlikely to win the Democratic Party's nomination because of the very crowded field. At least 20 are likely to run in the Democratic primary.

Authorities say the young man who claimed he was a missing boy from Illinois who disappeared in 2011 is an ex-convict from Medina.  The FBI says DNA testing showed the man was not Timothy Pitzen but 23-year-old Brian Rini, who was released from prison in March after serving time for burglary and vandalism.   Brian Rini's brother, Jonathan Rini, says his brother suffers from mental disorders and has been doing "stupid stuff" for as long as he could remember. 

Car dealership owner Bernie Moreno says he’s selling off his dealerships so he can dedicate himself to growing his new blockchain technology company, Ownum.  Moreno sold seven car dealerships in North Olmsted last week.  Ownum recently announced its first product, a system to put car title on blockchain.

The Indians defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-1.  Trevor Bauer threw seven no-hit innings.  The Indians were three outs away from keeping the Jays hitless when Freddy Galvis led off the ninth with a single off of Tribe closer Brad Hand. 

The Sacramento Kings buried the Cavs, 117-104.  It was the Cavs’ seventh straight loss. Buddy Hield scored 23 points.  Jordan Clarkson led Cleveland with 22 points.
