The city of Cleveland’s attorneys are set to meet on Friday in federal court with the monitor overseeing the city’s police reform agreement.

The routine status update could give Judge Solomon Oliver a chance to address several unresolved issues as the city carries out the consent decree.

The monitoring team has criticized Cleveland’s plan for equipping police officers, saying it wasn’t specific enough. Monitor Matthew Barge has asked the court to address the plan this week’s meeting.

Cleveland’s attorneys responded in court last week, saying the monitor’s criticism was unfair. They said their plan was a "serious undertaking" that "more than adequately addresses equipment needs."

The city’s response also says specific deadlines can’t be listed in some cases because of ongoing contract negotiations.

Separately, Barge wrote that he, the city and the Justice Department will update the court on plans to train officers on the new use-of-force policy.

Judge Oliver has also invited the co-chairs of the Community Police Commission to attend the meeting.
