Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is increasing security measures after Tuesday’s attack at a Brussels airport.
Interim Director of Port Control Fred Szabo says Hopkins increased security at the airport terminal immediately after the bombing in Brussels. That includes more uniformed officers and law enforcement trained to identify suspicious behavior.
"Behavior detection officers could observe that and send personnel to intercept that person and talk to them," said Szabo.
Szabo says undercover officers are watching passengers and during off-hours, checking employees to make sure they’re abiding by the law. The Transportation Safety Administration will also employ some outsourced help.
“The TSA has also added K9 officers as well as Cleveland Police K9s, so you’ll see additional K9 officers," said Szabo.
The airport has been on high alert since 9/11. Szabo says Hopkins is waiting on additional intelligence from Brussels that may affect federal security protocol at the airport.
