Exactly one month before the Ohio primary, Chelsea Clinton came to Cleveland to campaign for her mom Hillary. ideastream’s Annie Wu attended the event in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood.
A packed room of mostly older African-Americans listened to Clinton praise President Barack Obama and push for her mother’s candidacy for president.
"We have to protect the progress that President Obama has made and build on that progress. We cannot afford to go backward. And I think the Supreme Court question really highlights this…"
The question is whether the Republican controlled Senate will hold hearings once the president nominates a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia who died this past weekend. During her speech and a question and answer session, Chelsea Clinton touted her mother’s experience as First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State. That led Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown to prod Clinton to compare her parents’ qualifications for president.
"No, Bill wasn’t as qualified when he ran as Hillary is now. I wanna see her answer to that. Was Bill more qualified or Hillary?"
Chelsea Clinton avoided providing an answer to that question.
