A national rail advocacy group and the RTA are asking Clevelanders what they think about rail service in Northeast Ohio and how to improve the passenger experience.
Tomorrow, the Rail Users Network, a nonprofit that promotes public transit by train, holds its annual meeting in Cleveland.
The group’s president, Richard Rudolph, says he’s hoping Congress will start investing more into public transportation. He says existing lines between New Jersey and New York are more than a century old and need renovations.
“And of course, if we talk about service here in Cleveland, there’s two trains a day that stop in Cleveland. The Lake Shore Limited and the Capitol Limited, but if you’re trying to get to Chicago during the day, it’s pretty hard to do that by train. So there should be a daylight train from Cleveland to Chicago, and the other direction as well.”
The Greater Cleveland RTA is hosting the one-day event at its headquarters in the downtown area, with a public session Saturday afternoon
A presentation by RTA CEO Joe Calabrese will begin at 1:30pm, followed by other presentations by the RTA Citizen's Advisory Board, All Aboard Ohio, and Amtrak.
A one-hour discussion will follow, encouraging public input and feedback.
