While Gov. John Kasich makes a run for the White House, Ohio’s Capitol Square is already clamoring over who will take over as governor in 2018.
Secretary of State Jon Husted is considered to be one of the top possible Republican contenders for governor in three years. During a Columbus Metropolitan Club forum about this year’s ballot issues, moderator Mike Thompson threw Husted something of a curveball.
"Do you want to be governor?" Thompson asked.
"What’s that?" Husted replied. "You know, we have 2015, 2016, let’s wait for 2018 to come and we can talk about it at a future.”
"Well that’s the campaign," Thompson said. "Do you want to be governor? Do you think you’d be a good governor?"
"Do I want the job?" Husted said. "If that’s the question, someday I would, yeah."
Attorney General Mike DeWine had a similar answer when asked the same question a few weeks ago. Lieutenant Gov. Mary Taylor is another name thought to be in the mix.
