There are no firm facts or figures to show how much impact this past weekend's sale tax holiday had on Ohioans, but the state's leading retail business group is positive. From our Statehouse Bureau Jo Ingles reports.
The state says it won't have a final tally on the take from the sales tax holiday weekend until all businesses have filed their semi-annual reports in January.
But the Ohio Council of Retail Merchant's Lora Miller is upbeat about this past weekend's sale tax holiday on clothing and back to school supplies purchased in Ohio.
"You know, anecdotally, it sounds like consumers really took full advantage of Ohio's first ever sales tax holiday. However, it will be some time before we have any data to analyze because of the timing of business tax filings," Miller says.
Miller says the University of Cincinnati will be taking a look at retail shopping numbers in Ohio and other states, and by November, she hopes to have some idea of the impact this weekend's sales tax free status had on retail activity.
