The U.S. Supreme Court has put a hold on in person, early voting in Ohio.
The ruling will remain in effect until the court acts on an appeal by state officials. And since that appeal has not yet formally been filed, it means the Golden Week, when Ohioans can both register to vote and cast a ballot at the same time, will not be allowed.
This ruling also puts some weekend and evening voting hours in jeopardy. If the court doesn’t rule against the state in the near future, the weekend voting hours will be limited to the last two Saturdays and the one Sunday before Election Day.
Early voting will now begin Oct. 7, according to a release from Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted's office.
This U.S. Supreme Court ruling was split, with the high court’s five Republicans voting for it, the four Democrats voting against it.
