The indictment from the Cuyahoga County prosecutor accuses Bedford law director and city prosecutor Kenneth Shuman of accepting a bribe influencing him to hire a law firm for city business. Shuman is also accused of misleading police during their investigation of a brothel in Bedford.
Bedford Municipal Court Judge Harry J. Jacob III is accused of paying at least three prostitutes for sex, and giving special treatment on a traffic ticket to one women he solicited.
Shuman faces a count of receiving a bribe, taking an unlawful interest in a public contract, laundering money, stealing in office, obstructing justice, falsification, receiving improper compensation and soliciting. Jacob is charged with a count of taking a bribe and three counts of promoting prostitution.
Attorneys representing the two men could not be reached for comment by ideastream. Reached by the Plain Dealer, an attorney for Harry J. Jacob III declined to comment.
The two indicted officials are scheduled to be arraigned in court January 6.
