Union Leader Says Plans for Medicaid Expansion Ballot Issue Shouldn't Have Been Dropped

Monica Moran-Metzbower, the political director for the Service International Employees Union of Ohio, says the other two petitioners in the case wanted to drop the proposed ballot issue but she thinks it should have continued.

"Well we are disappointed in the decision," Moran-Metzbower said. "We think strategically it made sense for one of two things. One, we should have waited until the Supreme Court has ruled on this issue. Strategically, we shouldn’t try to presume what the court would do. We are cautiously optimistic but we don’t want to be presumptive.”

Moran-Metzbower says this also takes away the opportunity for ordinary Ohioans to weigh in on the issue.

Calls placed to Jon Allison, an attorney representing the Healthy Ohio Work petition, the group supporting the ballot initiative, were not returned.
