While he hasn’t formally announced his intention to run for attorney general, Democrat David Pepper says he has submitted the paperwork. He wants to challenge current Attorney General Mike DeWine in 2014. Pepper says he’d do more to focus on important consumer issues. And there’s something he says he wouldn’t do.
PEPPER: "One thing I want to not do is have that office get itself caught up in all sorts of ideological, far right-wing disputes. And that’s what we have seen recently...The whole fight over contraception to me is a great example of what not to do."
When asked what he thinks about Pepper’s plan to run against him, Attorney General Mike DeWine responds this way:
DEWINE: "Well first of all, David is a very nice person. I know him. My focus every day frankly is on protecting Ohio’s families and doing my job. As you can see, it's going to be a busy week. So there’s a lot going on in the attorney general’s office and frankly, I’m not focused on the next election."
Pepper says he will make an official announcement for the post later this year.
