Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald has set up an exploratory committee in the 2014 race to challenge Ohio Gov. John Kasich. FitzGerald made the announcement in a video uploaded to YouTube today. He also unveiled a campaign website.
FitzGerald was elected in 2010 as the first county executive under the new charter. Before that he was mayor of Lakewood.
Other politicians whose names have been floated as possible gubernatorial contenders include Rep. Tim Ryan, former Rep. Betty Sutton and Richard Cordray, the director of the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
