Later this month, the Ohio Supreme Court will hear a case that pits bar owners against the state’s health department. Maurice Thompson is with the 1851 center -- a group that will represent bar owners across the state in this legal fight. He says bar owners have the right to use their properties in ways they want. And he takes issue with the way the new voter approved law is being enforced.
But Mandy Burkett with the Ohio Department of Health says there is good reason why the state’s highest court should keep the ban in place. She says it is protecting the health of Ohioans. The Ohio Supreme Court will hear the smoking ban case on October 19th.
