Summit County Animal Control confirms it has no plans to kill all of its dogs and cats later this month. Rumors of the shelter’s intentions to euthanize its animals before moving to new facilities developed this past week on Craig’s List and Facebook. The Summit County office received hundreds of calls earlier this week from as far as North Carolina and California.
Summit County Animal Control’s director of administrative services, Craig Stanley, says the rumor caused the shelter a lot of headache.
STANLEY: “The first call was on Monday, and we got a bunch of calls Monday. Tuesday was the craziest day. We did have to listen to a whole lot of folks and a whole lot of language that I haven’t heard for a long time.”
The shelter is holding a special adoption event before moving on August 21st. The remaining animals will be transported to the new facility. Summit County will let the animal emergency service called CARE use the move as a practice animal evacuation.
