Bay Village Mayor Debbie Sutherland bills herself as a moderate republican, and is pro-choice. On 90.3's the Sound of ideas this morning, Sutherland spoke of Palin's appeal to women voters beyond the party faithful.
SUTHERLAND: We have an awful lot in common, and I think she's plain spoken, and she's warm and she's witty and she's smart...there is definitely a change in the air and I'm very happy to see it. I know I've had my own battles with the good ole boy network.
And former Cuyahoga County Republican Party Chairman Jim Trakas, who is running for Congress this year, says John McCain needs to tell voters more about how he's going to fix the economy but Trakas likes the lift Palin is giving the ticket.
TRAKAS: (Palin is) a regular middle- class person; her husband's a steel workers union guy, drills for oil, works third shift like I used to. It's someone we can relate to. These other three folks are great people --- but we can't relate to them. Obama lives in a big mansion; McCain lives in several mansions; Joe Biden has been in the Senate for 30 years. This is a real family we can get around. Once they get her on the campaign trail, she really shakes things up.
