All three Norwalk Furniture plants have been idled once again, after the deal that would have sold the 106 year old company to California based investors... collapsed.
The shutdown means nearly 900 area workers have no jobs to go to - and efforts to find a buyer are back where they started.
Mary Geretz is Chief Operator at Norwalk Furniture Corporation. She says workers took the news of the broken deal hard, but that no one is giving up.
GERETZ: "it's been a source of extreme frustration and trying patience from all ends, from our customers, to our dealers, to our vendors, to our employees here - but it's something that we're working on and trying hard to work through."
A deal had been reached in July that would have transferred ownership of the reknowned maker of fine furniture from the Gerken family, which founded the company to the investor Industrial Realty Group.
For now, the fourth generation of Gerkens retains ownership of the facilities in Norwalk, in Tennesee, and in Mississippi.
