National Group Lobbies Against Extending Ohio Term Limits

A state commission made up of leaders in the private and public sector is considering extending term limits for Ohio lawmakers. A national group is fighting the idea. Statehouse reporter Andy Chow has more.

The group U.S. Term Limits wants Ohio to keep its legislative term limits where they are which is at 8 years. There's a proposal before the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission to extend that to 12 years.

The national group traveled to Ohio and brought together opponents from around the state to back up their claim, including Republican Representative Ron Hood of Ashville, just south of Columbus.

Hood: "Without term limits you have people in positions for an awful long time and the longer those people are in those positions the more they feel they can get away with not being in touch with the voters back home."

Supporters of extending term limits say it will keep more experience in the legislature.
