Last week's poll and don't hold in a sneeze!

Learn a little more...with a link!

Health Information Website:  Kids Health Flu Center  | Can you prevent the flu?  Or, what does the flu really feel like?

Read the script:

WHILE WE’RE HERE LET’S CHECK OUT THE RESULTS FROM LAST WEEK’S POLL. WE ASKED IF YOU HAD GOTTEN THE FLU SHOT THIS SEASON. WELL 73 PERCENT OF YOU SAID NO YOU DIDN’T GET THE FLU SHOT.

OI! BETTER KEEP UP WITH WASHING YOUR HANDS GUYS TO AVOID CATCHING THOSE GERMS! MIGHT WANT TO KEEP A SUPPLY OF TISSUES NEARBY TOO. WHILE YOU MIGHT THINK HOLDING IN A SNEEZE IS A GOOD IDEA TO KEEP FROM SPREADING GERMS, A RECENT STUDY FOUND THAT IT’S ACTUALLY A DANGEROUS THING TO DO!

THE REPORT IN BMJ CASE REPORTS MEDICAL JOURNAL HIGHLIGHTS THE CASE OF A 34-YEAR-OLD MAN WHO HELD IN ONE STRONG SNEEZE. THE FORCE OF THE AIR HE HELD IN WAS SO STRONG THAT HE ACTUALLY HURT HIS NECK AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR TWO WEEKS.

DOCTORS FOUND AIR BUBBLES IN HIS SOFT TISSUES AND A SMALL TEAR IN HIS TRACHEA. (POINT TO NECK) THE TRACHEA IS THE WINDPIPE THAT CONNECTS THE OPENING OF YOUR THROAT TO YOUR LUNGS.

A SNEEZE CAN PRODUCE PRESSURE THAT EXPLODES AT SPEEDS UP TO 100 MILES PER HOUR – THAT’S ALMOST TWICE AS FAST AS SOME CARS ON THE HIGHWAY, AND WAY FASTER THAN A CHEETAH.

SO WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU’VE GOT A SNEEZE ON THE WAY? GO AHEAD AND LET IT ON OUT – INTO THE CROOK OF YOUR ELBOW. SAME THING WITH COUGHING. JUST LIKE THE VAMPIRE DRACULA WOULD WITH HIS CAPE. THIS WAY YOU’RE NOT GETTING THE GERMS ON YOUR HANDS AND SPREADING THEM AROUND.
