From uncovering new ways to fight cancer -- to combating climate change, 130 students from 30 states presented their science projects at the sixth annual White House Science Fair last week.
President Obama was on hand to welcome the next generation of scientists and standing behind him, were two students from Solon, Ohio. Emily Rabinovich and Sydney Bolomey, both sophomores at Solon High School, were honored by the president for capturing top honors at last year's national Science Olympiad competition as members of their middle school team.
In addition to shaking hands with the president, the teenagers voiced ideas on ways to boost interest in science and technology education at a roundtable with the U.S. Secretary of Education and Chief Technology Officer.
Rabinovich and Bolomey are now on Solon High School's Science Olympiad team, and they have another medal to add to their collection. The team won a state title earlier this month and will now advance to nationals.
