Gov. Kasich Delivers State of the State

He's been busy campaigning for votes, but although Governor John Kasich is running for president -- he still has duties to perform as the head of our state. One of those duties is to give the annual State of the State address, which is pretty much exactly how it sounds -- an update on the condition of Ohio.

Governor Kasich delivered this year's address at the People's Bank Theatre in Marietta, Ohio, which was the state's very first city, founded in 1788.This is the fifth consecutive year the State of the State has been held in a location outside of the statehouse in Columbus.

Much of the governor's speech focused on issues in education, including one of his three courage awards. Margo Hudson of Cleveland passed the GED after multiples tries. Now a

, which stands for general education development test, is an exam designed for people who for some reason, didn't graduate high school. It's equivalent to a high school diploma. Margo now tutors young Clevelanders who are working to earn their diplomas, and she's an ambassador for adult learning.

Also honored during the address was Wallace Peck of Columbus. He's an artist who overcame developmental disabilities and personal challenges, including homelessness.

The governor presented a third courage award to be shared by three people for their fight against drug addiction.
