North Korea Creates Its Own Time Zone

We just mentioned North Korea as one of Japan's neighbors. Well, the dictator there, Kim Jung Un, let's just say he does things his own way. Now, his government has created its own time zone.

A time zone is defined as a geographic region within which the same standard time is used. For instance, here in Ohio, we fall under eastern time, one of the four divisions of time the continental United States uses.

In North Korea, clocks were pushed back 30 minutes under Pyongyang Standard Time. Pyongyang is the country's capital. The time change marked the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation after Japan's surrender in world war two. The government says it's scuttling the current time zone because it is a legacy of "Japanese imperialist crimes."
