Texas Boy Discovers Dinosaur Bones

One hundred million-year-old dinosaur bones are being studied in texas, and you'll never guess who found them.

A five-year-old boy!

Gilma Avalos has the story.

   --REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS--

MEET WYLIE BRYS.

(nats) I can also dig with my hands

HE IS, AS THEY SAY, ALL BOY.

(nats) I can also lift this!

AND LIKE ANY FIVE YEAR OLD BOY--HE LOVES TO PLAY IN THE DIRT.

(nats) This makes a cool shape?

(DAD) Can you help me probe over here.

SOMETIMES HE LOOKS FOR FOSSILS WITH HIS DAD-- WHO HAPPENS TO BE A ZOOKEEPER.

(nats) Get this rock out of the way.

BUT LAST YEAR THE PRESCHOOLER CAME ACROSS SOMETHING TRULY UNUSUAL.

(Wylie Brys, 5 years old) I thought I found a turtle.

(Tim Brys, Father) We were out looking in this area just to see if anything was here and he walked up a little bit ahead of me and came back with a piece of bone.  I knew it was something  pretty large.

IT TURNS WHAT WYLIE DUG UP WAS ACTUALLY A 100 MILLION YEAR OLD DINOSAUR BONE IN AREA OF MANSFIELD THAT IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

(Wylie Brys, 5 years old) That's dinosaur bones

(Tim Brys, Father) Originally this was slated for a restaurant parking lot.

A TEAM OF EXPERTS FROM S-M-U AND THE DALLAS ZOO WORKED QUICKLY TO UNEARTH AND IDENTIFY THE CREATURE.

(Louis Jacobs, SMU Professor) We're looking at an armored dinosaur called a nodosaur. This particular one would have been the size of a horse.

TODAY S-M-U SCIENTISTS ARE HERE TO TAKE THE BONES TO A LAB TO BE STUDIED.  THEY CONSIDER THE FIVE YEAR OLDS FIND TO BE SPECIAL.

(Louis Jacobs, SMU Professor) It is completely amazing and if you think about it just look around at where we are? This is a shopping mall.

TIM BRYS SAYS HE DOESN''T THINK HIS SON REALLY UNDERSTANDS THE IMPORTANCE OF WHAT HE FOUND THAT DAY..

(Tim Brys, Father) He thinks it's neat that he's found a dinosaur.  I don't think he understand it's kind of overwhelming for me. I don't think he understands this may never happen again for us.This is probably a once in a lifetime find.
