Ohio Headlines: Park Proposal, Frozen Lake, Basketball Record

OFFICIALS IN CARROLLTON, OHIO ARE LOOKING FOR A BOOST IN TOURISM, AND THEY'RE TURNING TO THE U.S. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FOR HELP.

CARROLL COUNTY OFFICIALS HOPE TO CREATE A PARK COMMEMORATING A CIVIL WAR RAID, IN AN AREA REGARDED AS THE NORTHERN MOST BATTLE BETWEEN UNION AND CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS. THE AREA IS NOW PRIVATE PROPERTY, BUT OFFICIALS ARE IN TALKS TO USE THE FORMER BATTLEFIELDS FOR A PARK AND RECREATION TRAIL.

REMEMBER OUR STORY EARLIER ABOUT AN ICE RESCUE NEAR ANTARCTICA? WELL SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME...THE U.S. COAST GUARD ASSISTED A FATHER AND DAUGHTER SAFELY BACK TO SHORE, AFTER THEY BECAME DISORIENTED DURING A SNOW SQUALL WHILE SNOWBOARDING ON LAKE ERIE.

LAKE ERIE IS ALMOST ENTIRELY FROZEN, WITH ABOUT 94 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE, THE MOST OF ALL THE GREAT LAKES ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ASSOCIATION.

THE LAKE REACHED 100 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE ONLY THREE TIMES IN HISTORY, WITH THE LAST BEING 1996.

THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS HAD TWO PLAYERS IN THE ANNUAL ALL STAR GAME, WHICH WAS HELD IN NEW YORK. LEBRON JAMES AND KYRIE IRVING REPRESENTED THE CAVS OVER THE WEEKEND...

THE CAVS WERE ON A ROLL BEFORE THE ALL STAR BREAK, AND JAMES KEPT THAT MOMENTUM GOING. HE FINISHED THE GAME WITH 30 POINTS. THAT PUTS HIM IN SECOND ON THE NBA'S ALL-TIME ALL STAR SCORING LIST, PASSING THE ONE AND ONLY MICHAEL JORDAN.
