Small Drone Found on White House Lawn

There were some nervous folks at the White House this week, when a small flying drone was found on the ground. The U.S. Secret Service investigated the device, which turned out to be just
a small recreational toy, being flown by a government employee.

But now people are asking, what are the rules about drones? Who can have one? Where can you fly it? There are some laws about the devices, even though they are pretty new. The Federal Aviation Administration is working to craft rules so that businesses which use them, share the sky safely with airplanes.

Rules already outlaw recreational drones to fly higher than 400 feet, or within five miles of an airport. So the one at the White House was breaking the law, even though it wasn't being used to spy.
