Here in the United States we're used to being able to get our TV news from lots of different sources. But that's not the case everywhere.
In Tomsk, Russia, state broadcasting regulators have decided to shut down TV-2, the last remaining independent television broadcaster in the region. All other TV news stations are owned by the state, which also gets to dictate the content they present.
The Siberian station has been on the air for 23 years, but it's set to shut down as of the new year. TV-2 lawyers say they will appeal the decision.
TV-2 isn't the only station targeted by state regulators. another independent channel, DozhdTV was shut down by regulators last February.
It's since moved online, and is currently broadcasting out of someone's living room.
