We all expect high school students to solve math equations, but what about real-world problems? The three-year-old "We Solve Problems" essay contest challenges local high school students to suggest solutions to issues they confront daily. This year, 1,500 young students across Northeast Ohioans submitted essays. Jeremy Cavanagh, a freshman at Chagrin Falls High School, won for his essay on how schools can protect LGBT youth. ideastream's Rick Jackson spoke with Jeremy and contest co-founder Alex Gertsburg about the competition -- and heard an excerpt from the winning essay.
