There's a hillside along the west bank of the Cuyahoga River, just across river from downtown Cleveland, that sits weed-choked, and unstable.
But it's being targeted for development that would further solidify cleveland's commitment to its water fronts, and to connected public spaces.
The site is known as Irishtown Bend once home to a shantytown of Irish immigrants more recently an encampment for homeless people.
For years, engineers have warned that the hillside was sloughing off into the Cuyahoga, which needs to be addressed 'before' it topples into the river, clogging an important economic artery.
The plan now is to do much more, to create a space that celebrates the river; and helps connect a series of parks and trails that stretch from Cleveland south to Akron.
