The Comeback of the Flats; Being a Blacksmith, Violins of Hope at The Maltz Museum; The Studio Foundry

VIOLINS OF HOPE: For the past few weeks Northeast Ohio has been buzzing about the exhibit, “Violins of Hope.” It recently opened at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage in Beachwood. On this episode of Applause we present you with a first look inside this moving exhibit.

THE FLATS CLEVELAND: You may remember places in the flats like Peabody's Down Under...D'Poos...and Fagan's. Well those places have been replaced by a new generation of night clubs, restaurants and residences.  Over the next few weeks we’ll be reporting on the renovation of the Flats’ East Bank, and we begin by sharing a chat with chef Steve Schimoler, and restauranteur Zack Bruell, who both recently opened new spots in the Flats.

BLACKSMITHING: And on this episode of Applause America we stop by the Ohio history center in Columbus, and meet a Blacksmith who shows us how common objects can become works of art.

STUDIO FOUNDRY: Working alone as a Blacksmith around equipment hot enough to melt metal is dangerous enough.  Now imagine working with a group around molten metal,  where your safety depends on each other.  That’s what’s taking place every day for a number of artists in midtown Cleveland who work together as fabricators casting statues.
