Ideas Sunday - Greater Cleveland Fisher Houses; LGBT Center; Giraffe Conservation

Northeast Ohio is home to the nation's third largest veterans hospital, the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. The center provides care for more than 100,000 veterans a year, but has always lacked a nearby place for the families of sick and injured soldiers, sailors – and other military to stay. Last Tuesday, a 10 year mission to fill that gap ended with the opening in Glenville of a pair of what are known as Fisher Houses.

Speaking of new homes, the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland opened its new facility in the Gordon Square Arts District. The move brings greater visibility to an organization that has advocated for -- and served the needs of -- the region's LGBT community for nearly 45 years.

Plus, summer starts Friday. Since it's the longest day of the year, conservationists and wildlife protection groups use the occasion to bring awareness to an animal known for its long neck - the giraffe. We talk to experts here in Cleveland and in Africa working to improve the odds for these giant creatures.
