Large parts of the Midwest, including Northeast Ohio, are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures midweek. A wind chill watch is in effect late Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon. Highs for Wednesday and Thursday will be near zero with 18 to 22 mph winds with gusts of up to 30 mph, which could drive wind chills to as low as -40 in some spots. The National Weather Service says such extreme cold is life-threatening. A number of local agencies and churches are providing programs that provide clothing, shelter, food and warmth.
