Ohio Bill To Combat Lake Erie Algae Moves Forward
The bill passed by the House Agriculture committee bans the spreading of manure on frozen or rain-saturated farmland.
Republican Representative Brian Hill of Zanesville, who chairs the committee, says it went through several revisions because lawmakers wanted to make sure the bill didn't overly burden farmers.
"This is a big change and we've got to understand that these guys are going to need maybe a little bit of help-maybe a lot of help and a little bit of time to comply and if they're trying we cannot slam them every time there's a little hiccup," said Hill.
A big change in the new version allows one violation per infraction. The previous language only allowed one violation per month.
A full House vote is expected later this week.
