Goodyear Studying New Akron Headquarters Proposal

Goodyear's 3,000 employees in Akron are spread among a complex of buildings that is intersected by I-76. That could change under a new proposal to move the company headquarters from its early 20th century building into a new campus on the other side of the expressway, next to Goodyear's research and technical building.

The idea comes from developer Stu Lichter, who has made a career of turning old factories into mixed use developments. He wants to do that with Goodyear's old headquarters. Company vice president Joe Gingo said their old site is outdated and they will study the matter, but he says to be fair to shareholders all options will be explored.

To ensure that the tire maker stay in Akron, the mayor, Don Plusquellic said the city, county, state, and federal government should cooperate.
