The Cuyahoga County Board of Health will hold Pfizer booster shot clinics every Tuesday in October starting next week.
Clinics will be held at Word Church in Warrensville Heights on Oct. 12 and Oct. 26, and the Tri-C Western Campus Recreation Center on Oct. 19, according to a news release. Clinics will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Up to 750 appointments are available at each clinic, according to the release. Eligible individuals can register using the state’s online scheduling portal or by calling 1-833-427-5634.
To qualify for a booster, patients must have received the Pfizer two-shot vaccine and be over 65, have a medical condition or job that puts them at a higher risk of contracting or becoming severely ill with COVID-19, or live in a long-term care facility, the release states.
Individuals must also be at least six months out from receiving their second dose of the Pfizer shot, according to the release.
Registration is currently open for the first two clinics, and appointments will open up for the Oct. 26 clinic on Oct. 13.
Other local health departments, pharmacies and health centers are also offering booster shots.
Summit County Public Health is holding drive-thru vaccination clinics by appointment only at the health department in Akron on Wednesdays and Fridays through Oct. 15, according to health officials.
Pharmacies like Giant Eagle, Discount Drug Martand CVSare scheduling appointments on their websites, and Cleveland Clinic began offering booster doses to patients last week.
Healthy individuals who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines are not eligible for Pfizer booster shots, although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reviewing data from both companies and may issue booster guidance soon.
The FDA and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have already approved third doses of both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for immunocompromised patients who received their first two doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
