Four Ohio Cities Implement PulsePoint Respond App

Since 2010, PulsePoint has been used as a way to get those who suffer cardiac arrest more immediate treatment.

A new app will help four Ohio cities respond more quickly to an emergency call.

Starting this week, when a 9-1-1 call is placed to Parma, Parma Heights, Brooklyn and Brook Park, the first responders will use the PulsePoint Respond app to send out an alert that includes the location of the incident.  The idea is to contact others who might be nearby and are trained in CPR to respond to those suffering from a cardiac arrest.

Parma Fire Department spokesman T.J. Martin says this will allow the “Chain of Survival” to start more quickly.

“It means the initiation of immediate or as soon as possible CPR, along with immediate defibrillation of someone in a cardiac arrest situation," Martin said. "One of the most important links in the chain is to ensure that the patient increases their survivability by allowing CPR to be performed on an almost immediate basis."

Cleveland, Lakewood and Chagrin Valley have already implemented the app response service.
