The seven people are now under voluntary quarantined and are showing no symptoms of the virus, health officials said. A child whose parent had contact with Vinson is also under quarantine.
“We have no cases of Ebola virus disease in Summit County," Summit County medical director Dr. Margo Erme said. "The only way someone can get Ebola virus disease is being in contact with someone who has Ebola virus disease."
She continued, “People who came in contact with contacts are still not at risk, because none of our contacts as of today have shown any symptoms whatsoever.”
Erme said health officials believe they have identified all people who had contact with Vinson. Five are in Summit County and two are in Cuyahoga.
“We’ll be in contact with these people on a daily basis,” she said. “Part of that is that we’re actually at the house, because we have to monitor the temperatures at least once a day, and then the other time, they have to take the temperature while we are on the phone with them. “
Vinson’s mother, who is not showing symptoms, is quarantined in Dallas, Erme said.
Gene Nixon, the Summit County health commissioner, said Vinson spent most of her time in Northeast Ohio at home.
“She was not at football games, she was not at restaurants, she was not at pizza parlors, she was not at the grocery store,” he said.
She did go to one store, Nixon said, and the owners are currently not working. He said health officials would be in touch with them throughout the day.
