Mechai Viravaidya is Thailand's so-called "Condom King." His efforts to combat Aids in his home country have ranged from conventional education campaigns to the more unusual. He's widely credited with helping reduce the number of new AIDS cases in Thailand from a high of 140,000 a year in the early 1990s to around 20,000 today. He was in town last week to speak as part of the "Chautauqua in Chagrin" summer series. He spoke with ideastream®'s Eric Wellman.
