On the 48th anniversary of Kent State's May 4 shootings, the university unveiled a plaque Friday identifying the site of the shootings as a National Historic Landmark.
The National Park Service officially designated the site in 2016, becoming one of 71 National Historic Landmarks in Ohio.
There are more than 2500 across the country.
