With the Republican National Convention just eight months away, organizers say they need volunteers….up to 8,000 to be specific.
Sharon Richman is the volunteer manager for the 2016 Host Committee. She says they need people who’ll greet the estimated 50,000 visitors and answer questions about Cleveland.
“To date, we have 3,000 volunteers," says Richman. "We have not yet rolled out our corporate recruitment campaign, although we’re talking with a lot of excited corporations and representatives who are eager to participate. Volunteers will be in hotel lobbies, at the airports, at key transportation stops throughout all of Northeast Ohio but of course, the majority of the action will be taking place downtown.”
Richman adds that she hopes volunteers reflect the diversity of Cleveland. All must be 18 years or older and will be subjected to background checks. The goal is to have at least 5,000-8,000 volunteers signed on by the end of March next year.
