Dozens of people crowded on the steps of Cleveland City Hall Friday with rainbow flags, scarves and signs celebrating the Supreme Court's decision. Some had already grabbed marriage licenses and others were there to listen to city and regional leaders and advocates.
J. Bennett Guess, a reverend with the United Church of Christ in Cleveland, wore a rainbow scarf and watched the scene. He and his partner met 14 years ago and they married in Massachussetts in 2008.
"We have been waiting for this day to come for us and it all ended today for us with a text to one another that says 'We're officially married in our home state of Ohio,'" Bennett said. It's tremendously exciting."
Bennett says he's looking forward to celebrating more during the Cleveland Pride celebration at Voinovich Park Saturday. June is national gay pride month and there were already-planned celebrations across the country this weekend.
