Gov. Kasich Addresses Immigration Issue While In Iowa

Gov. John Kasich (Karen Kasler/Statehouse Bureau)

Gov. John Kasich is back on the unofficial campaign trail for president. He hasn't announced his candidacy, but Kasich was in Iowa today...discussing issues like immigration.  Our Statehouse reporter Andy Chow has more.

First, news outlets reported a chance meeting between Kasich and an 11-year-old boy who wants the governor to support a White House executive action that would keep his mother in America.

Then, during a forum streamed live by The Des Moines Register, he was pressed further on the issue.

Kasich says he's not for forcing millions of people out of the country but he doesn't seem to have a solid stance on what should happen instead.

"My view is--should they become citizens? I wouldn't favor that, but I said I wouldn't take it off the board because if you're gonna solve this problem you're gonna have to have both parties involved," said Kasich.

But Kasich used the issue to once again describe himself a consensus builder who calls on Congress to work together.
