A report on police training has prompted state lawmakers to consider changes in practice, but they could come with a big price tag. Statehouse reporter Andy Chow explains.

House Republicans want to remove the cap on the maximum amount of hours new police officers can train and require new officers to have at least a high school diploma or GED.
But their bill doesn't address annual continuing education--which was a big recommendation out of Attorney General Mike DeWine' advisory committee on police training.
There are about 35,000 officers in Ohio. DeWine says paying for just one additional hour of training for every officer in Ohio would cost the state about $700,000 in reimbursements based on a formula of $20 per hour per officer.
DeWine: "Status quo will not allow additional hours to be mandated something has to give here, money has to come from somewhere."
The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police wanted more time to read over the bill before commenting.
