Let's say an F3 tornado touches down in Cuyahoga County. The new state of the art Emergency Operations Center or E-O-C could withstand those winds up to 200 miles per hour. But County Executive Armond Budish says one of the biggest benefits of the EOC will be happening inside the building.
Several county departments--including the Office of Emergency Management and the Cuyahoga Emergency Communications System--will all be relocating to the facility.
Budish said if those teams are all working side-by-side when an event occurs, the chances for miscommunication could be minimized.
"The EOC breaks down operational and literal silos between our public safety agencies, and as a result, enhances inner-agency coordination, collaboration, coordination, and executive decision making," Budish said at the groundbreaking event.
The building will also have space for emergency dispatchers, along with a training center and a large garage for equipment and vehicles.
Construction is slated to be completed late next summer.
