EVAN BAILEY: Technically, it's better designed, the color is a little bit more active. All that being said, the reaction's pretty clear that people are not loving it.
The thing is, the new insignia --- designed to look like a helmet --- doesn't seem that much different than the logo that players have worn for nearly four decades. The team says the new design is the result of a two-year evaluation process. By contrast, a stylized drawing of a scowling dog is getting better reviews as a new image for the team's fabled bleacher fans, known as the Dawg Pound. Case Western Reserve University marketing professor Casey Newmeyer says it's an effective change which she thinks will make it more useful on a wider range of fan apparel.
CASEY NEWMEYER The president of the Browns is quoted as saying that's not the reason that we're doing this, but I'm sure they considered it when they talked about it.
And more changes are coming. Browns management says the revamped logos are the prelude to a new design for team uniforms that will debut in mid-April.
