The Little Foxes: Heather Anderson Boll

CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE OPENS 99TH SEASON WITH THE LITTLE FOXES
SEPT. 12 - OCT 5 IN THE ALLEN THEATRE

CLEVELAND, OH (September 2, 2014) When the Hubbard siblings have the chance to strike it rich, not even the ties of blood or marriage are safe from their cold calculations and elaborate schemes. Artistic Director Laura Kepley launches Cleveland Play House’s 99th season with Lillian Hellman’s delicious drama of ambition and greed in the Deep South that warns us to keep our friends close – and our relatives closer. The Little Foxes, directed by Cleveland Play House Artistic Director Laura Kepley, will run from September 12 – October 5 in the Allen Theatre at PlayhouseSquare.

The focus is on Southerner Regina Hubbard Giddens, who struggles for wealth and freedom within the confines of an early 20th- century society where a father considered only sons as legal heirs. As a result, her avaricious brothers Benjamin and Oscar are independently wealthy, while she must rely upon her sickly husband Horace for financial support. Cleveland native Maggie Lacey will play the role of Regina, a role previously played by such iconic actresses as Anne Bancroft, Elizabeth Taylor, Tallulah Bankhead, Stockard Channing and Bette Davis (film version).

CPH Artistic Director Laura Kepley comments: “The theme of our 99th season is Legacy and we open our season with a great American play, The Little Foxes. It premiered 75 years ago, yet is so incredibly topical and startlingly relevant I keep forgetting it’s a classic American play. It has been produced and interpreted by every successive generation because it explores what happens when the ambition that drives the American dream becomes predatory. This play really has it all. It’s fast paced, it’s very funny, and these characters will stop at nothing. This is sibling rivalry at its most intense, ferocious, and delicious.”

The Little Foxes contains racial slurs.
