Matthew Cordle’s confession showed up online earlier this week.
The 3 1/2-minute video shows Cordle saying he made a mistake by driving drunk and “killed a man” on June 22. County prosecutor Ron O’Brien was surprised.
“I’ve never seen anything similar to this,” O’Brien said.
Cordle was a suspect in the drunk driving case but he had not been charged. Now, a grand jury will hear the prosecution's case, including the video confession. O’Brien says he’ll ask a grand jury to indict Cordle for aggravated vehicular homicide. A trial is unlikely but the video could be used as evidence in any sentencing hearing.
“I think probably the video itself is somewhat compelling as to his remorse. Remorse is always something that the court looks to,” O’Brien said.
Cordle’s attorney says the video “is a strong testament” to his client’s character.
