Three Ohio students advance to Spelling Bee semifinals

Forty-one students remain out of a record 293 participants this year.

The Ohio semifinalists are: 13-year-old Tino Delamerced from Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati; 13-year-old Anamika Veeramani from Incarnate Word Academy in the Cleveland suburb of
North Royalton; and 11-year-old Nicholas Rushlow from Harmon Middle School in Pickerington in central Ohio.

Written test scores were combined with the oral rounds yesterday to determine the semifinalists. A dozen or so spellers will compete in tonight's finals for a trophy that comes with more than $40,000
in cash and prizes.
