Honda To Cut Production In Ohio

The company will do the reductions by eliminating between four and seven production days in January, and slowing the pace of production on other days, a spokesman said.

This, along with the Nov. 20 announcement that two December production days will be eliminated, will lead to a total reduction of about 175,000 vehicles in North America. The cuts constitute about 12 percent of the production plan for the fiscal year that ends in March.

"Economic conditions continue to challenge the automobile industry, impacting all automakers, including Honda in North America," the company said in a statement.

During the hiatus next month, Honda workers will have the option to take unpaid leave, vacation, or report to work for non-production tasks.

"We continue to manage our business carefully and strategically to meet the needs of our customers while maintaining stable production and employment," the company said.
