Testing of Ohio voting machines sought by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner begins today.
The study, which will cost about $2 million will take a look at opitcal scan and touch screen voting machines in use in Ohio's 88 counties.
The state controlling board Ok'd payment of the study Monday. Initially it held off because Republican legislators and elections officials questioned Brunner's contingency plan in the event that the machines were found faulty. That issue has been resolved.
The secretary of state says machines will be tested by a team that includes academic as well as technical experts. Loaner machines will be provided by manufacturers to the counties so that municipal primaries will not be affected.
Brunner says a report will be sent to the governor and state legislators by December 14.
